My Design Philosophy

I design with a user-first mentality by fusing function and enjoyment. I strongly believe that users should not have to think: what I create should be a quick, easy and painless experience for the user. However, I also believe that design can bring joy & wonder. UI design can be beautiful, creative, unique and delightful without sacrificing usability. In fact, I believe it often enhances functionality.

About Me.

Background

Experience

Achievements

I am a San Francisco based designer & dog momma! I was born in Texas but I spent my teenage and adult years living in foreign countries (Canada, Chile, Denmark), thus creating an adaptive, sensitive and open mind. This internationalism plays a large role in my learning and working style - being understanding, innovative, non-judgemental and confident.

Having been enthralled in various cultures from a young age, I decided to obtain my BA in Political Science and History at McGill University. My studies prepared me to become a keen researcher, writer, presenter and speaker. It also developed my understanding for the complexity of cultures and events that take a lifetime to truly understand.

Eventually, my passion for creativity and art overpowered my interests in social sciences - leading me to UX/UI! As soon as I began studying UX/UI, I became aware of my intense passion for the field and since that moment I have been genuinely excited to go to work everyday. The field of UX/UI makes me feel like a sponge - I absorb and retain information rapidly, design quickly and meticulously, and flawlessly collaborate with clients.

I flourished immensely in my first year as a UI Designer and I was quickly promoted to the role of 'Senior Experience Designer, UI' with the encouragement and support of my team. In such a short amount of time I have become a leader, role-model and invaluable asset to my design team. I have often been told by my managers and directors that I am one of the strongest designers on our team, a rising star, and an impeccable asset.

My presentation and speaking skills are noteworthy, receiving many praises and requests to train other team members in public speaking. Last year, I was even selected to speak at a Women's Month panel at my company. Out of the entirety of our company, only six women were selected for our exemplary work and dedication. And this year, I was again selected as an honorary interviewee for a company wide Women's Month article featuring several women chosen as "Women Who Inspire Inclusion". In this article I discuss my personal experiences with inclusion, exclusion and my inspiration in this world.

I am very adept at using Figma - advanced production design techniques and also in lesser-known creative, conceptual manners. As a result, I have led many trainings in Figma for the rest of my team, as well as leading standard visual design workshops & onboarding. Sometimes I feel the need to pinch myself, hardly believing that I've found my purpose in life that brings me so much joy.
